Services Available: Accessible Psychological Interventions (API) & Mental Health Integrated Complex Care (MHICC)

The Stepped Care Service is an initiative funded by the Australian Government under the PHN program. 

Mentis Assist provides Accessible Psychological Interventions (API) Services for people with mild to moderate mental health needs throughout the Mornington Peninsula and Mental Health Integrated Complex Care (MHICC) services for people with severe, complex mental illness in the Mornington Peninsula, Frankston, Casey and Cardinia regions through the South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network (SEMPHN).

SEMPHN catchment includes the areas of Bayside, Kingston, Mornington Peninsula, Cardinia, Port Phillip, Stonnington, Casey, Frankston, Glen Eira and Greater Dandenong.

Mental health support for people with mild to moderate mental health needs.

Who Can Access API Services?

If you live or work in the South East Melbourne Primary Health Network (SEMPHN) Catchment, have a Health Care Card or can’t afford to access similar services, you may be able to access API services.

Referrals to API Services are particularly encouraged for people in the following groups:

  • Children under 12 years of age
  • People living in residential aged care facilities
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
  • People experiencing homelessness
  • People at risk of suicide
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse people
  • People with perinatal depression
  • People with substance use disorders
  • People who have experienced family violence
Am I eligible for API Services?

If you have been assessed and diagnosed as having a mild to moderate mental illness, such as mild depression and anxiety and feel that you will benefit from the services provided by API, you may be eligible to access API services.

Note: Children under the age of 12 and those at risk of suicide do not need an assessment and diagnosis to be eligible to access API services.

How do I access API Services?

Referrals to API can be made by anyone; including GPs and other primary health providers, schools, social services, other organisations and you can also refer yourself.

If referred by a GP, the GP should fax an appropriate referral form with relevant information and a Mental Health Treatment Plan to 9793 9052 or call 1800 862 363 for priority assistance (business hours only). Mental Health Integrated Complex Care (MHICC)

Mental health support for people with severe/ complex mental illness.

Who are MHICC services for?

If you live or work in the South East Melbourne Primary Health Network (SEMPHN) Catchment, have a Health Care Card or can’t afford to access similar services, you may be able to access MHICC services.

You may be eligible for MHICC services if:

  • You are not eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) or Partners in Recovery (PIR)
  • Have a mental illness and complex needs, that are affecting social, personal or work life
  • Have a GP, psychiatrist or other health professional who is looking after your mental health care in the community.

How do I access MHICC Services?

Referrals to MHICC can be made by anyone; including GPs and other primary health providers, schools, social services, other organisations and you can also refer yourself.

If referred by a GP, the GP should fax an appropriate referral form with relevant information and a Mental Health Treatment Plan to 1300 354 053 or call 1800 862 363 for priority assistance (business hours only).
