What is the NDIS?

The NDIS is a new national approach to accessing support for disabilities, including psychosocial disability. According to the NDIS, psychosocial disability is ‘the term used to describe disabilities that may arise from mental health issues…People with a significant disability that is likely to be permanent may qualify for NDIS support.’

What is the NDIA?

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is the new independent statutory body developed to oversee and implement the NDIS.

When will the NDIS be available in Victoria?

The NDIS is currently being trialled in Barwon, Victoria and is being introduced in stages throughout Victoria from 1 July 2016.

The dates of the roll out throughout Victoria have been announced and the NDIS will become available in the Bayside Peninsula area from 1 April 2018.

Who is eligible?

The NDIS provides a checklist which can provide some guidance in determining if you are eligible for funding.

How do I access NDIS funding support?

If the NDIA assesses you as eligible for support through the NDIS they will contact you to conduct an individual assessment and discuss your needs. After a support plan has been established you will be given the choice as to which service provider(s) you wish to engage to provide your chosen services.
